3.1

just to prove how subtle and understated phillip lim's style is, the first page of his site is nothing but a pure delicious whiteness with, of course, his label 3.1phillip lim written in its shadowy grey fonts.

i used to be easily impressed with obviously avantgarde designs that use such complex patterns and shapes they distort the human body into grotesque proportions. now i love things subtle, understated. that's why i've been going gaga over phillip lim's trapeze dresses with the most delicate rosettes all over. his clothes might not be so laden with concepts or theories but what average customers want at the end of the day are gorgeous clothes (allright, maybe its a swift generalisation since people do dress up in quirky ensembles now and then).

photos by Johan Renck

came across this knit designer from Sweden, Sandra Backlund, who said that"The handicraft process and the handmade feeling is very significant. I am interested in almost every traditional handicraft technique. For me it is the absolute challenge. All the levels of skills you have to pass before you can even think about starting to improvise. It is the real thing and everything that the modern fashion industry is not"
